USAID audit causes unrest

While the government of Guyana claimed 17 times more AIDS orphans than reality, certain South African provinces refused to report statistics on AIDS in their region. Now, President Bush’s $15 billion plan to fight AIDS in Africa is facing criticism from members of the House, such as Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.):
While the global AIDS pandemic is an urgent humanitarian crisis that demands a rapid response, we cannot sacrifice results and accountability for speed.
