This style guide for contributors describes how to prepare a post for eMedNews.

Title
Provide a title for every post. The title should be informative without being too long. The title should not be capitalized (other than a leading capital, proper nouns, abbreviations, etc.). The title may use abbreviations without prior reference; however, if an abbreviation is obscure, it may be preferable to avoid using is. If the source of a story is notable, include the source’s name in the beginning of the title. For instance, an editorial in the Wall Street Journal criticizing the patent system might be titled “WSJ: Disfunctional patents” or “WSJ calls for patent reform”, etc. On the other hand, an article in a small newspaper from Wisconsin about a Wisconsin congressman criticizing the patent system might be better titled “U.S. Rep. So-and-so calls for patent reform”.

Categories
Remember to add your post to the appropriate categories. On the right-hand side of the “Write Post” page, next to the composition panel, click on the “Categories” tab. Add your post to a category by clicking in the check-box next to the category’s name. Include your posts in one or more categories, described below:

  • Meta: Posts about eMedNews. News about eMedNews (e.g. technical details, staff, design, features) should go in this category, not “News”. Most contributors will not use this category.
  • News: The default category. All stories should be included in the “News” category. News stories may also be included in one or more subcategories:
    • Comings and Goings: Hirings, firings, resignations, election results, etc. from relevant institutions.
    • Drug Development: Discovery, research, development, etc. of medicines.
    • Intellectual Property: Law, policy, and politics of intellectual property rights.
    • Neglected Diseases: Treatments for neglected diseases.
    • Open Access: Open access to scientific research findings, data, academic publications, etc.

If you have any questions, make a post and an editor will clean up after you.
